Burning Rivalry
BURNING RIVALRY
Submission for the PirateSoftware Game Jam 16. Click here to read the GDD. This game is also our first incursion into gamedev territory, so feedback is greatly appreciated. Enjoy!
Game summary:
When two powerful mages fight each other, regular spells do not suffice. In this situation a living weapon is needed, relentless and with fiery rage... literally. In this dungeon crawler side-scroller with procedural chaos, you play as a little, naughty flame, summoned in order to unleash destruction upon the Water Mage's fortress. Your quest as the flame is to cause as much havoc as possible in the least amount of time, consuming everything that stands in your way. But be careful! The castle is guarded by the Mage's henchmen, who will try to stop you. You must avoid their water spells lest you want to be put out. However, the more you burn, the more you grow. Will you succeed in your quest to become the spark of change... or will you burn out before fulfilling it?
Controls:
- Move with keyboard ARROWS, jump with SPACE.
- Press SHIFT to sprint and jump higher, at the expense of reducing your flame size.
- Touch a piece of furniture to burn it. Each burned item awards you with points.
- Touching a flame will increase your size.
- Enemy mages will cast spells to extinguish you.
- GOAL: Burn 500 points of furniture.
Assets:
All graphical assets have been built from scratch for this gamejam, using blender.
The game also has 8 different music tracks (+ main menu's and credits). A different one will play on loop for every run started. Also, a video with the credits in HD can be found here since itch.io is allergic to large web files.

We have found some bugs that we will solve once the Game Jam has completely ended and the jury has emited its veredict. Players beware!
1. Once in a while, some rooms do not spawn furniture when they should.
2. Sometimes, the game over screen shows a victory message below the "The fire has been extinguished" text.
3. Enemy mages do not always climb stairs. It seems that they do not like physical activity.
